The Personnel Department is working with various City partners to host "Post-Layoff Support Sessions" to employees affected by layoffs. These sessions will include benefit and payroll information, wellness resources, re-employment opportunities, and more. Information on these sessions will be made available to employees as they are finalized.
If you would like to submit ideas on what other topics/areas to cover during post-layoff sessions, please provide input on the Post-Layoff Session Survey.

Important Notes for Employees
* Processing time varies and may affect the appearance of coverage in outside (non-City) systems. In many cases, provider systems (e.g. medical, dental, etc.) will not be updated timely. Employees will be financially responsible for any services they or their dependents seek after their effective employment termination date.
** Being laid off qualifies as a Life Event.
- You may be able to enroll in a spouse’s, domestic partner’s, or parent’s health plan. Contact their HR/benefits department right away.
- This also qualifies as a life event under the healthcare market place. Apply at CoveredCA.com to see if you qualify for state/federal subsidized health care, including Medi-Cal/Medicaid.
*** COBRA Enrollment
- Coverage is retroactive to your last day
- You typically have 60 days to elect coverage after receiving your COBRA packet

“SUPPORT PLUS” - EMPLOYEE AND FAMILY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (EFAP)
It is understandable that employees may be experiencing stress during this process and are encouraged to use the City’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) for support.
What is it?
Suppo
rt Plus is an employee and family assistance program. The City’s EFAP provides: access to counseling and emotional support services; legal and financial resource services with the ability to speak with an attorney or access legal document support; and, convenience service support which can help identify finding support services (e.g., day care, lodging options, etc.)
Services are available to anyone in your household for free.
*Discounted rates are available to continue services on each issue once the free sessions are exhausted.
