The City of Los Angeles employs over 50,000 persons who perform a wide variety of functions in providing necessary services to the public. City employees work in positions which are grouped into various classes according to their duties and responsibilities. There are approximately 1,200 classes defined in individual class specifications. Collectively, they constitute the City’s Classification Plan.
